Before i started my first online business i used to work 5 days a week in a supermarket called Kwik Save, i stacked shelves for 3 years at Kwik Save and during this time all i thought about was starting my own business. I personally found it very depressing working for someone else as you are never going to end up on the kind of money that you really want, i wanted a lot more!
I approached my brother, who is an artist, to enquire about starting a Canvas Art business to sell canvas prints locally and online and we both agreed that this would be a really good idea. We booked an appointment at HSBC and opened up a Business Account almost immediately to get the ball rolling and then we applied to the Payment Processors SecPay and Streamline so we had freedom to create our own online payment process.
I will be honest and say that for the first few months we were making hardly any money but this is quite common for a new business. I started applying Search Engine Optimization to our web site and within a few weeks we noticed a dramatic increase in our Search Engine Traffic and we literally went from hardly any income to 2-3 sales a day.
I have no artistic talent whatsoever so i was involved with Orders, Customer Service and the Manufacturing of the wooden frames whilst my brother created all the artwork and managed the printing side of things. This went on for many months and we started making good money but this really wasnt for me anymore, i had bigger ambitions and so i decided to start my own online businesses using the money i had generated from this Canvas Art business. This was a great learning experience for me and i doubt i would be making the kind of money im on today without starting this business.
Im now no longer involved in this business with my brother but with the SEO i applied to the website dramatically improved his search engine listings and he is now one of the most popular Canvas Art Production businesses in the UK and he makes an incredible income online and i couldnt be more happier for him.
I dont recommend you simply quit your job and try to make money online as i did as its a big risk and it will not always work out. If you really want to quit your job i recommend you save up at least 4-6 Months worth of wages to keep you going as you make this Transition otherwise you risk everything!
Try and learn the basics of Internet Marketing on your days off from work as this will help you when you quit your regular job, if you want to ofcourse!
Most people go into business because they want more out of their life. More free time, more financial stability, more fun. Whatever your “more” is, make sure to throw caution to the wind and make it happen!
